New Onset Refractory Status Epilepsy (N.O.R.S.E.) is a relatively newly defined disease entity, where otherwise healthy individuals develop unrelenting seizures that do not respond to conventional anti-convulsant therapy and may require months of therapy with anesthetic drugs." reference 2
Coined the term 'N.O.R.S.E.' in 2005 to describe a group of previously healthy adults with a particularly refractory status epilepticus for which no clear explanation was found. "Cryptogenic NORSE is likely to be more common than we assume."

Panel shows electrographic seizure activity over the left frontal region (maximal amplitude at F3) on a referential montage with R1 placed over the 2nd cervical vertebra.
